He abused five of his daughters with wives' consent From Today paper, Pg 8

THE man who raped five of his daughters and impregnated two of them was sentenced to 32 years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane yesterday.

Describing the incestuous acts as "systematic and sickening", Justice Tay Yong Kwang noted that the 45-year-old "wielded strong influence" over his family members.

"It was a sad and shameful abuse of this trust and respect that allowed him to do what he did. Two of the hapless girls had to undergo abortion … However, all the daughters who were involved had their childhood innocence aborted by the man who turned against his own offspring," said Justice Tay, who noted that the mothers' roles in persuading the young girls to do as the father said "deprived the daughters of one escape route".

The accused, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the children, had subverted parts of the Quran to justify his incestuous acts, which were carried out over 18 months last year. The victims were aged between 12 and 15.

The qualified religious teacher, described by friends and family as a "responsible husband and father" and a "humble and hardworking family man", had 64 children with 10 wives and another two daughters from a previous marriage. .

He had convinced his wives during a religious lesson that he had ownership of his children, and that included having sex with them. At least four of his wives helped to persuade his daughters to have sex with him.
He was arrested in June last year after his first and oldest victim, now 16, lodged a police report.
Last Thursday, he pleaded guilty to nine charges of rape and aggravated rape, as some of the victims were below 14 years old at the time of the offences. Thirty-four other charges, including an attempted rape on a sixth daughter, were taken into consideration for sentencing.

Acknowledging that it is "always an extremely difficult task" for the court to sentence the main breadwinner of a family, Justice Tay asked the family to "make the necessary adjustments".

As he urged the rest of the family to band together to provide love and support for the victims, he wrapped up the case by affirming the eldest daughter's decision to report her father. "She has done the right thing by reporting these sad incidents to the police. She and her young sisters have absolutely nothing to be ashamed about. The wrongdoing was on the part of their otherwise responsible father," he added.

Personally, I reali feel disgusted when I read tis article at all 3 papers – The Newpaper, Berita Harian & The Straits Times on 14 April. But, if you read the title, it tells u everything that you need to noe.. Actually u can even noe that this is a sickening article.. Shocking but it’s true.. Yes, it’s happening in this little country, ie. Singapore.. This man should be hang immediately. He’s reali desperado. But he claimed that he didn’t have sex because of his sexual needs. He’s truly bluffing.. why?? If you read carefully, he have 10 wives.. Isnt dat really desperate?? & furthermore, have sex with his OWN FLESH & BLOOD! He claimed that he’s doing this for his daughters’ good. This is really sickening… Honestly..i cant believe that his first, third and fourth lawful wives and first contractual wife actually helped him. This really is conspiracy act. Those women who helped him should actually be prison so as to tell them that wat they did are wrong. Even so, they should noe better since they are educated women. Didn’t these women have brains in the first place?? Reali sickening!! Why should the women fear with their husband & why didn’t they prevent him?? They can actually report this to the police or religious officers if they reali love their husband..Well..in case you didn’t know what this is about, let me give you a description on what actually happen.

This man, who cant be named to protect the identities of the victims, have some faithful followers. He’s a well-versed in Islamic history and fluent in Arabic, who teaches lessons @ mosques, tertiary institutions and at home and also founded his own religious movement.

4 years after his first marriage in 1984, he divorced his first wife after she objected to his wanting to marry again. Later that year, he married a 26 year old woman & within 6 months, he married three of her best friends. Four months later, a series of contract marriages, with 6 more women. They were solemnized in Thailand as they are not recognized here. All his wives are Singaporeans & live in 3 HDB flats in north. All women are attractive. 10 wives bore him 64 children – 33 boys and 31 girls btwn 9 mths & 16 years.

A few of his wives speak fluent English and seem well-educated. All believed to hold steady jobs. The wives think he’s handsome, charismatic, intelligent and responsible. They listened to him too. And they made no attempt to stop him from preying on their daughters.

This is what this man says. "I own my daughters. I have a right to have sex with them." In his pleas, sumwhere in 2003, he found out his older daughters were hanging out with boys and behaving improperly. Referring to a verse in Quran, he told them a father had "ownership" over his children. He said that meant he could have sex with his daughters. He believed that if he could satisfy his daughters’ needs, they would be less likely to have sex with boys. He also saw it as the lesser (sic) of two evils – having sex with him would prevent his daughters from contracting illnesses. They would also always have his love & care.

All believed him & what made it sick was that the girls’ mothers helped in catering to his perverse pleasures. If he wans sex with his daughters, his wives would approach them and tell them to go into his bedroom. He even made two of his daughters (sic) pregnant who later had an abortion.

When this incident is made known to the police, 2 of the victims are staying at a shelter while the other 3 are in under their mothers’ custody. & according to the law, for rape, he can be jailed up to 20 years and fined or caned. For aggravated rape, he can be jailed to 20 years and caned at least 12 strokes.
